Jane Milligan Berger

Jane Milligan Berger

Jane Milligan Berger, born December 16, 1930 in Savannah, Georgia, lived her soulful faith from birth through her death on December 3, 2013 in Louisville, Kentucky. Jane will be remembered for her life with Jake; her love of family, friends, and all things "home"; her ease in getting to know others' life stories; and her graceful affirmations to so many.

Upon graduating from Savannah High School in 1949, the adventurous Martha Jane Milligan moved to Washington D.C. and worked at the FBI. Her faith and love of music expanded at First Baptist Church Washington. Returning to Savannah, she met Jacob Jake Reynolds Berger Gretna, VA and they married in 1952. Jane and Jake devotedly parented four daughters: Angie King Steve, Marietta, GA; Pam Bearden Jim, Greensboro, NC; Joy Berger John Reed, Louisville, KY; and Bonnie Barfield Charlotte, NC; with six grandchildren, three spouses, and four great-grandchildren. Jane is preceded in death by her cherished Jake; by her parents, Dr. James Carswell Milligan and Lois Robbins Milligan Lee; her sister Betty Gibbs and brother Jimmy Milligan; and is survived by her sister Janice Anderson Augusta, GA.

Jake and Jane created home together in Savannah 1952-1979, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia 1979-81, Augusta, GA 1981-2007, assisted living in Pineville, NC, near Bonnie and Pam 2007-2013, and Jane with Joy in Louisville, KY 2013. Whatever Jane took on, she pursued with passion and perseverance: children's music at Bull Street Baptist, sewing, cooking, piano, travel, supporting Jake's professional roles, hospitality, cross-stitch and quilting, computers and iPads, creatively organizing her ongoing projects, and finding meaning through it all. Jane's warmth and wisdom will be missed, and will live on through many family and friends.

Visitation will be in Savannah, GA, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Home, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 5, 2013. The funeral will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 6, 2013 at Fox and Weeks, with burial following at Bonaventure Cemetery. Continuing Jake and Jane's legacy of service, memorial gifts can be sent to the donor's favorite place of service, in Jane's name. We invite you to sign the guest book at www.foxandweeks.com.

GUEST BOOK

With deepest sympathy to the Berger family for the death of your dear loved one. May you find comfort in the words of Isaiah 25:8 'He will swallow up death forever. And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces.'

- Annie Thomas, Snellville, GA

To the family of Ms. Berger, I would like to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. No doubt the loss of such a dear loved one will be felt by many. The Bible makes the promise at Isaiah 26:19 that the dead will live and will rise up. What a joy that will be. May this and the many other promises in God's word continue to comfort your family.
